Kravis Center for the Performing Arts continues its 2023 – 2024 SEE IT LIVE! Season with a February filled with audience favorites and first-time Kravis engagements including a celebration of Black History Month with the 18th Annual African American Film Festival; EVOLUTION: MOTOWN and MOVED: A CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY AND CULTURE THROUGH DANCE; a visit to Lake Wobegon with Garrison Keillor for the 50th Anniversary of Prairie Home Companion; the Kravis On Broadway premiere of JAGGED LITTLE PILL; a cultural tour of international hits with BALLET HISPÁNICO: DOÑA PERÓN, LAS MIGAS and Sara Currichich; a feast of the finest music from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to Diana Krall, to Michael Feinstein; iconic performances with 54 Below at the Rinker’s Adam Pascal, and Chazz Palmiteri in A BRONX TALE; non-stop laughs with comedians Preacher Lawson and Bianca Del Rio, and much more. Cuban jazz pianist Alfredo Rodriguez continues to wow critics and audiences around the world. After meeting Quincy Jones at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2006 and receiving an offer to work together, Alfredo emigrated to the U.S. to pursue his dream of being an internationally revered performer. Over the past decade, he’s gone from a local Cuban musician to a globally recognized artist with five critically acclaimed releases.

A BRONX TALE: ONE MAN SHOW STARRING CHAZZ PALMINTERI

Experience this powerful, one-man play written by and starring Emmy® Award-winning Bronx-born author, Chazz Palminteri. Bringing 18 different characters to life on stage, Palminteri recounts the incredible story of his childhood, including witnessing a gangland killing when he was just nine years old. With his work, A BRONX TALE, Palminteri has the distinction of being the first in history to write and star in the screenplay, book and one-man play.

Lawson is best known for his appearance on season 12 of NBC’s hit series, America’s Got Talent (2017) where he made it to the final round. He was then invited to compete on America’s Got Talent: The Champions (2019) and Britan’s Got Talent: The Champions (2019) where he advanced to the finale after receiving the most fan votes. Lawson shot his first stand-up special, Get To Know Me, which premiered on BET+ in 2019.

starred as the original Roger Davis in the Off Broadway, Broadway and London Productions of RENT, for which he received a Tony Award® nomination. He also reprised the role in the 2005 film adaptation. He originated the role of Radames in Broadway’s AIDA and he played the final Emcee in the Roundabout’s production of Cabaret. Additional Broadway credits include Huey Calhoun in MEMPHIS, Billy Flynn in CHICAGO, Chad in Disaster!, William Shakespeare in SOMETHING ROTTEN! and is currently starring as Edward Lewis on the National tour of Broadway’s Pretty Woman.

Kathleen Collins’s feature film, Losing Ground, focused on the tensions between freedom and fidelity, abstraction and representation in this American independent film. In her experimental short film, An Ecstatic Experience, Gary explores themes of beauty, resistance and freedom.

In this charming literary adaptation, Bright Road, Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte play a caring teacher and a thoughtful school principal who mentor a troubled but gifted student. Stefanie Saintonge’s short film about friendship in the tumultuous tween years, Seventh Grade.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra is known for trailblazing performances, collaborations with the world’s foremost musical artists and a deep connection to its city. Under the baton of Music Director, Jader Bignamini, Detroit Symphony has been hailed the “most accessible orchestra on the planet.” Following multiple sold-out performances over the years, Detroit Symphony returns to the Kravis Center with cello superstar Alisa Weilerstein. Their program will feature Elgar’s dark, deeply emotional cello concerto as well as Rimsky-Korsakov’s enchanting Scheherazade.

Daughters of the Dust portrays the conflict of tradition and change for a close-knit Gullah family on the cusp of migration north and is credited with inspiring some of the beautiful imagery in Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” (2016). Peña’s poignant portrait of a grieving woman, When Angels Speak of Love, evokes mythical mermaids and political realities.

Everyone’s favorite “clown in a gown,” Bianca Del Rio, is returning to the stage with a new comedy show, aptly titled “Dead Inside.” This will be the seasoned comic’s sixth worldwide standup comedy tour. Bianca will be entertaining the masses with her iconic, lightning-fast wit and razor-sharp tongue. Her new show will cover politics, pop culture, political correctness, current events, cancel culture, and everyday life through the eyes of someone who’s “dead inside” and finds humor in everything. As with all of her shows, there will be lots of audience interaction. When the “Joan Rivers of the Drag World” has a microphone in her hands, no one is safe!

The passional Gypsy voice of Carolina Fernández “La Chispa,” the guitars of Marta Robles and Alicia Grillo and Laura Pacios on the violin together create a modern flamenco accessible to all. MOVED: A CELEBRATION OF BLACK HISTORY AND CULTURE THROUGH DANCE

This Palm Beach County-based event, presented by Natural Movers in partnership with the Kravis Center is an inaugural single-day dance experience that invites attendees to MOVE, LEARN, and WITNESS the spaces that Black dancers and artists pioneered, carved, and influenced in the field of dance. ‘MOVED’ is an immersive dance experience that celebrates Black History Month by centering its content on the Africanist presence in dance. From masterclasses to discussions and workshops to performances, ‘MOVED’ will provide a full day of experiences to MOVE, LEARN, and WITNESS Black history and culture through dance and the arts.

SARA CURRICHICH

Sara Currichich is the first indigenous Guatemalan singer and songwriter to sing in Kaqchikel (her mother tongue), as well as Spanish, for an international audience. Her voice and message of love, awareness, respect and defense of life in all its forms, have led many people to regard her as a beacon of light and hope. Her music blends various genres such as rock, folk and traditional Mayan Kaqchikel music.

Alexander Hamilton’s life reads like a Shakespearean tragedy, from his struggles as a child in the West Indies and the loss of his family, to his early demise from a duel. Go behind the scenes to learn surprising and inspiring aspects of the great founder’s life and stories that set the context for the major scenes in the musical.
