Curtain Up! For 5th Grade! and Lights Up! For 6th Grade!
The Kravis Center partners with the School District of Palm Beach County to provide culturally enriching performances for every 5th and 6th grader in the District as part of their Community Experiences program. These programs are called Curtain Up for 6th Grade! and Lights Up for 6th Grade! and they offer live grade-appropriate performances in both Dreyfoos Hall and in, the more intimate, Persson Hall. Performances are ticketed by the school district. All performances are booked through the School District of Palm Beach County.

Curtain Up for 5th Grade
WIND IN THE WILLOWS
September 29-30 · Monday and Tuesday at 10:30am

Journey into the Wild Wood on this multi-media adventure based on Kenneth Grahame’s beloved children’s novel. Wind in the Willows mixes classic storytelling with projected illustrations to tell the trials of Mole and Rat on an all-night race against time as they venture through the hidden wonders of the forest to find the young Otter before it’s too late.

Have you ever experienced a musical duo, in this case brothers, who play all genres of popular music, using the violin instead of their voices to express a song’s lyrics? If not, then you must not have heard of the violin virtuosos – Sons of Mystro! They use their violins to interpret reggae classics, American pop songs, and their own creations. At an age when music is coming to be more defined by genres and labels, Sons of Mystro shows that music does not exist within a box but rather exists in another space – one as open and unrestrained as the minds that produce it.

A hip-hop revelation for the younger generation! Meet two modern-day hip-hop street performers, Jake and Will, who bring the stories of the Brothers Grimm to life with a contemporary spin, as they and a few of their friends turn records and dance circles around some of the most beloved and well-known fairy tales collected by the famous German brothers of old.

Magic in Motion melds the fascination of magic with the wonders of physical science to create an unbelievable educational experience!
In this highly visual, interactive show, students will be on the edge of their seats as they explore how science creates magic right before their very eyes! Their jaws will drop in amazement as ordinary objects come to life, while others defy gravity with a simple clap of the hands and so much more!

Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is the first professional company dedicated to the tradition of stepping – a polyrhythmic, percussive dance form that uses the body as an instrument. Under Mr. Williams’ leadership, stepping has evolved into one of America’s cultural exports, touring more than 50 countries across the globe. Step Afrika! is one of the top 10 African American dance companies in the world. Step Afrika! promotes stepping as a contemporary dance genre through critically acclaimed performances and arts education programs. Creatively engaging audiences in this nascent art form, the Company creates full-length productions that expand on stepping’s unique American history.

This concert, which features the band and chorus, explores the idea of America as a beacon of hope, while also acknowledging difficult issues that have been overlooked in that portrayal. The program includes a diverse range of musical styles, from orchestral masterworks to Broadway musicals, and features a 65-member Concert Band and a 29-member Soldiers’ Chorus.

Get ready to embark on a journey of intergalactic proportions with Cahoots as you uncover the Secrets of Space. Using special effects, original music, live vocals, magical illusions and state of the art digital media, the wonders of the galaxy will be explored in dazzling detail while unpacking key ideas in science, technology, engineering and math in a creative and interactive way.
