About BUGS:
A Novel Instrumental Guitar Performance for Young Audiences with Projection Mapping and Drum-Triggered Light and Sounds.

  • This multimedia show for young audiences incorporates Kaki King’s signature guitar projection mapping and drum-triggered effects into a fun-filled story of bugs, beetles, critters and all things sugar.
  • In BUGS, audiences experience magically synched visuals, emotionally rich music, playful effects, as well as multiple kinds of recorded insect sounds.
  • BUGS is engaging and interactive, encouraging audiences to participate and dance along. They are invited to shout out their favorite bug, dance like one of the insect characters jiggling around on the guitar and feel the freedom to interact with King and glow in their own discovery processes.
  • The visual world created by GLITCH incorporates video and imagery of insects, spiders and other invertebrates – along with melting ice cream, friendly characters, bundles of candy, exploding lego jelly, bouncing toys and more.
  • The audio experience combines King’s live guitar performance, sound samples and field recordings from nature – all triggered in real time.
  • Adults will enjoy the rich, unique audio-visual experience and sophisticated music. The show is intended both for children and anyone who is a child at heart!

About Kaki King:
Kaki King is an iconoclastic guitarist, composer, artist and teaching performer. For over 20 years, King has created a body of music celebrated for its enduring impact in performance, recorded albums and cinema. She has expanded the known possibilities for the role of guitarist – synthesizing musical compositions with visual art, projection mapping, sound design, and theatrical production. Deconstructing and reconstructing norms of guitar playing and composing form the basis of all of King’s creative practice. Kaki King’s sole demand for any audience is that they feel their way through her work.

About GLITCH:
Orsolya Szantho and Attilio Rigotti are multidisciplinary artists who co-founded the multimedia theater company GLITCH, creating work that combines digital mediums with new forms of physical storytelling. Rigotti is a Chilean performer, director, technology artist, videogame designer, teacher and former Associate Artist with experimental company Theater Mitu. Szantho is a multimedia designer and filmmaker, working across cinema, interactive installations and projection design on and off Broadway. Work by GLITCH members has been featured across international festivals and at theaters like The James Earl Jones Theater, MCC, Second Stage, The Longacre Theater, The Kennedy Center, Bayreuther Festspiele, Prague Quadrennial 2023 and more.
GLITCH has been collaborating with King on projection and interactive design for years and developed BUGS as their first full partnership with King.
