AN AFTERNOON OF ART, HISTORY AND INSPIRATION: KRAVIS CENTER KICKS OFF ARTSMART LUNCH AND LEARN SEASON

Dr. Robert Watson opens the 2026 series with immersive “America 250” experience

(West Palm Beach, Fla.) – The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts recently launched its 2026 ArtSmart Lunch & Learn Series with “America 250,” an immersive and theatrical exploration of the nation’s founding led by historian and author Dr. Robert Watson. Held January 26 in the Gimelstob Ballroom of the Cohen Pavilion, the program combined scholarship, performance and storytelling to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The event was sponsored by the Michael and Margaret Picotte Foundation.

Designed as both a history lesson and a dramatic experience, “America 250” featured live performances of Revolutionary-era poetry, music and speeches by Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts Musical Theater sophomores: Kayla Brown, Bella Catania, Tristan Dominguez and Devin Jackson under the direction of Stephanie Nixdorf, Director of Musical Theatre.  The performances were paired with Dr. Watson’s commentary illuminating little-known stories and pivotal moments behind America’s fight for independence. Together, the elements transported audiences back to 1776, offering a new perspective on the ideals, conflicts and personalities that shaped the birth of our nation.

“The founding of America was nothing less than a paradigm shift in history,” said Dr. Watson. “For the first time, the idea of a sovereign ruler was replaced with popular sovereignty – the belief that we, the people, are sovereign. It was a radical reimagining of government that reshaped society, redefined power and changed the course of history.”

The program marked the first of three presentations in the Kravis Center’s 2026 Lunch & Learn season, which blends engaging conversation with a refined midday dining experience. The series continues February 17 with “Joan Crawford: A Woman’s Face,” featuring film historian and New York Times bestselling biographer Scott Eyman in conversation with author and photographer Steven Caras. The season finale, “Tradition Redefined: Designing Through the Decades,” will be on March 23, with celebrated interior designer Ellie Cullman of Cullman & Kravis Interiors.
