Volunteer Salute
A cruise theme set the tone for the Kravis Center's annual Volunteer Salute in April as the Center honored the hundreds of people who dedicate their time and talent to the Center and the community each year. Caryl Russell of Boynton Beach received the 2008 Volunteer of the Year award. Len Patrusky and Paul Grossman of Lake Worth were named Ushers of the Year for contributing exceptional time and energy to the Kravis Center. The Rookie of the Year award, bestowed on first-year ushers who show great initiative, went to Maria Romano of West Palm Beach.

Reach for the Stars - "Dancing for the Stars"
“Dancing for the Stars,” a ballroom dance competition pitting West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel against members of the media, brought a fresh new feature to the Young Friends of the Kravis Center’s annual Reach for the Stars benefit on April 6. Joining Mayor Frankel on the dance floor were anchors Suzanne Boyd and Eric Roby from CBS 12 NEWS and Fox 29, weekend anchors Bob Kaple and Meredith McDonough from WPBF Channel 25, Toni May from WXEL TV’s South Florida Today, and anchorwoman Tania Rogers from WPTV NewsChannel 5.

Palm Beach Wine Auction
The inaugural Palm Beach Wine Auction, sponsored by the Private Client Group at National City, attracted oenophiles and arts supporters alike, raising $243,000 for the award-winning arts education programs for children at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. View Gallery ►

The smooth vocals of multi-Grammy-Award winner Anne Murray provided the perfect ending for a dinner honoring the Kravis Center Founder Members and Grand Sponsor, Sponsor and Patron members of the Dress Circle on February 27.

2008 Gala Benefit
Youthful exuberance was palpable at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts’ annual Gala Benefit as dancers from the Joffrey Ballet performed their “Cool Vibrations” program to the music of Prince, Motown and the Beach Boys for the evening’s gala attendees.
More than 300 people attended the Gala Benefit on January 16. Proceeds from the evening help sustain the Kravis Center’s $19 million operating budget for diverse programming, including the center’s comprehensive arts education and community outreach programs. Laurie Silvers, a member of the Kravis Center Board of Directors, was Chairman of the festive event.

Dress Circle and Corporate Partners Dinner
An elegant performance by Broadway star Brian Stokes Mitchell was the perfect way to cap off the evening when the Kravis Center held an event in honor of Dress Circle Members and Corporate Partners on December 12. About 300 Dress Circle Members, Corporate Partners and their guests attended a special dinner in the Weiner Banquet Center’s Gimelstob Ballroom.

Vecellio Cocktail Party Honoring Laurie Silvers
All hands were on deck December 7 when Leo and Kathryn Vecellio hosted a party aboard their motor yacht, Lady Kathryn III, in honor of Laurie Silvers, Chairman of the Kravis Center’s 2007-2008 Gala Benefit. Invited guests also included members of the Gala Benefit Host Committee.

Open Air
The Kravis Center Student Arts Enrichment Task Force’s latest project was like a breath of fresh air when local bands and dancers took to the Michael and Andrew Gosman Amphitheatre stage on November 17. The outdoor concert event, titled Open Air, featured high school and college students performing music, dance and even a fashion show for their peers.

Annual Dessert Reception for Annual Friends Members and Young Friends of the Kravis Center
They may have cried for Argentina by the end of the evening, but the Annual Friends Members and Young Friends of the Kravis Center were certainly cheerful when they were honored at a dessert reception prior to a performance of Evita on October 18. This year’s dessert reception and the evening’s musical performance about Argentina’s Eva Peron were generously sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Arts Camp 2007
Students enrolled in the Kravis Center’s ArtsCamp 2007 learned the “ins and outs” of putting together a theatrical production. Under the guidance of various professionals, 70 children, ages 9 to 11, created an original production based on the theme “Outside/Inside.” ArtsCamp 2007 was held in The Picower Foundation Arts Education Center Theatre June 25 through July 13. Campers explored the artistic process of creating an original theatrical/musical production from inception through performance utilizing all of the disciplines within that process: theatre, vocal music, dance and technical theatre.

Board and Standing Committee Luncheon
The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts thanked members of its Board of Directors and Standing Committees of the Board for their dedication to the Center with a luncheon held in the Cohen Pavilion. Prior to the luncheon, some of the guests along with hundreds of local school children attended a Kravis Center S*T*A*R (Students and Teachers Arts Resource) Series presentation of Harry the Dirty Dog. Alexander W. Dreyfoos welcomed fellow board members and committee members who attended the annual luncheon and expressed his thanks for their time, effort and enthusiasm on behalf of the Kravis Center. At the luncheon Mr. Dreyfoos and the Kravis Center also recognized seven members of the board who are retiring due to bylaw-mandated term limits. They are honored for their dedication with the designation of Life Trustees of the Center.

Alexander W. Dreyfoos Retirement Luncheon
Civic, academic, cultural and business leaders along with Kravis Center volunteers, staff and Board members, friends and family filled the Cohen Pavilion on March 23 to pay tribute to Alexander W. Dreyfoos on the occasion of his retirement as Founding Chairman of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. It was a day of celebration across Palm Beach County as West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel and County Commission Chairperson Addie Greene presented Mr. Dreyfoos with special proclamations in recognition of his numerous contributions to Palm Beach County culture and education, and his leadership role in the construction and management of the Kravis Center for the past 25 years. Young Friends Palm Beach Motor Cars Mixer
Young Friends of the Kravis Center got a personal peek at the latest in luxury automobiles when Palm Beach Motor Cars hosted the organization March 15 for a cocktail mixer in the dealership’s showroom in downtown West Palm Beach. The Young Friends of the Kravis Center also extended the invitation to members of the Young Friends of the Flagler Museum, Young Friends of the Norton Museum of Art, Friends of the Palm Beach Zoo and Young Friends of the South Florida Science Museum courtesy of Palm Beach Motor Cars. Gospel Gala
The Community Relations Committee of the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts recently hosted the center’s annual Gospel Gala, featuring Fred Hammond. The evening was emceed by Community Relations Committee member Felicia Rodriguez from WPBF Channel 25. Boynton Beach High School Dimensional Harmony and the Bibleway Missionary Baptist Church Praise Dancers also appeared during the spirited evening of song and dance.

Cue the Classics
Cue the Classics was presented in The Picower Foundation Arts Education Center on November 19. The musical quiz show invited members of the music-loving public to submit questions to an expert panel prior to the event. Dr. David Prensky moderated the program, Susan B. Tilley served as the Judge and Marlene Woodward was the pianist. The distinguished panelists included former Metropolitan Opera soprano, Roberta Peters, Palm Beach Daily News Classical Music Critic, Dr. Marcio Bezerra, Palm Beach Daily News Music Critic, Joseph Youngblood, Music Director and General Manager of the Greater Palm Beach symphony, Dr. Ray Robinson and Dreyfoos School of the Arts music student, John Weisberg.

Work in Progress
If you visited The Picower Foundation Arts Education Center on November 18, you were certain to catch a good vibe. That’s because Persson Rehearsal Hall was transformed that evening into “Club Vibe,” a venue where local student bands rocked and the crowd of high school and college-age students danced into the night.
The evening was called Work In Progress, a supervised event where teenagers, young adults and families came to be entertained by young artists. The night of music and dancing was presented by the Kravis Center’s Student Arts Enrichment Task Force.
