Blending intricate South African rhythms and rich tenor/alto/bass harmonies, the a cappella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo borrows heavily from traditional music called isicathamiya (is-cot-a-ME-ya), which developed among mine workers seeking to entertain themselves. Founded more than 50 years ago by Joseph Shabalala, the Grammy Award-winning ensemble has recorded with Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, Sarah McLachlan, Josh Groban, Melissa Etheridge and many others.

This PEAK performance is made possible by a grant from the
MLDauray Arts Initiative in honor of Leonard and Sophie Davis

Note: Picnic baskets, lawn chairs, blankets and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome in the Gosman Amphitheatre – an open air facility. Concession refreshments are available.
