Former Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet and Co-Founder and Director of Morphoses dance company, Lourdes Lopez has set out to blaze her own trail as Miami City Ballet’s new artistic visionary after Edward Villella, company Founding Artistic Director, stepped down several months ago. Born in Cuba yet raised and trained as a dancer in Miami, Ms. Lopez is clearly a ‘local girl comes home’ story as she returns to assume this much sought after post in the ballet world. Through film and images, Caras, a contemporary of Lopez at NYCB, will set the stage prior to his intimate and engaging conversation with her, sharing the artist’s colorful childhood, her rapid rise to star dancer, and her eclectic post-performance careers, all of which contribute to making this exciting chapter in her life as MCB's new Artistic Director, a most natural progression.
